Marvelous Mangoes

“The king of fruit”

Mangos, aka the “king of fruit”, are not only super delicious, these exotic, juicy gems are also low in calories, loaded with lots of vitamins, and packed with a multitude of health benefits!

One medium-sized mango contains approximately 135 calories. Mangos are rich in antioxidants, potassium, iron, fiber and folic acid. They are an excellent source of Vitamins A and C. Mangos aid in digestion, and pump up your body with powerful enzymes that help soothe the tummy; which makes them a great cure for indigestion, and may also help give relief to expectant mommies suffering from morning sickness!

Adding mangos to your diet may help reduce cholesterol levels, and fight heart disease. Some health experts have suggested that the high level of phenols present in mangos may give them cancer-fighting properties as well!

Outdoor games for kids of all ages

Limbo: All you need is a long stick, (an old broom stick works great), two people to hold it up, some island music, and…participants of course!

Hot coconut (Play just like “Hot Potato”, but use a coconut instead of a potato).

Water balloon toss – Inflate balloons with water from the faucet, and tie tightly. Pick a partner and gently toss back and forth until the balloon bursts. Prepare to get soaked, but it’s very refreshing on a hot summer day!

Water balloon target game – Get creative by creating a bulls eye target game with your kids. Have you kids make their own bulls eye target by using colorful paint and a canvas. Once, you have your target ready, have the kids toss their water balloon aiming the center of the target. Mark each throw. The person with the closest throw to the center bullseye wins.

Musical pools (Instead of chairs, fill up disposable aluminum pans with water. Always have one fewer “pool” than kids. Crank up some tunes, have an adult randomly shut off music. When the music stops, then each person must quickly sit in a “pool”. The person who is left without a pool to sit in, is eliminated, and a pool is removed as well.) Repeat until there is only one “pool” remaining.

Hula hoop contest: Each person is given a hula hoop, the person who can hula hoop the longest wins. Exotic sweet juicy treats for your skin The summertime weather can be very drying to your skin. It’s important to not only stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, but also to give some extra attention to your skin by hydrating that as well.

Summertime skin remedies

Along with the sweet sounds, smells, and tastes of summertime, come a few minor annoyances, such as bug bites, sun burn, bee stings and poison ivy! Listed below are some natural remedies, which may help relieve some of those common skin irritations:

Aloe vera plant – Break open one of those fleshy leaves and apply the clear gel contained inside directly on to sunburned skin. A cool bath may provide additional relief for sunburn; just add a few drops of lavender essential oil and one cup of baking soda to the bath water. Soak in the tub for about 15 minutes.

Lavender and tea tree essential oils – Just a few drops of these essential oils applied directly on the site of insect bites or bee stings can reduce inflammation, relieve discomfort, and may even help promote quicker healing of wounds.

Oatmeal – Make an oatmeal paste (Cook oatmeal thicker than normal) to provide relief to skin rashes associated with poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac. The temperature of the paste during application should be fairly warm to hot. Caution: be VERY careful that the oatmeal is not too hot for your skin, or you will burn yourself!
